WI-FI IS RADIO
Your internet connection may arrive at the router at hundreds of megabits per second, but that speed means very little if the wireless signal has to pass through several walls, a floor and a kitchen full of appliances before reaching the device.
Router placement matters. So do construction materials, neighbouring Wi-Fi networks and the frequency band a device is using.
A good network design works with those limitations instead of trying to overpower them.
WIRED WHERE IT COUNTS
Wi-Fi is brilliant for phones, tablets and portable devices. It is not automatically the best connection for everything.
TVs, desktop computers, network storage, printers and access points are often better wired when practical. Every suitable device moved onto Ethernet also reduces unnecessary wireless traffic.
The result can be a simpler, faster and more predictable network without replacing every piece of equipment.
NETWORK DIAGNOSIS
“The internet is slow” can describe several completely different problems, so the first job is identifying where the slowdown actually occurs.
Is the broadband service itself performing correctly before we start blaming Wi-Fi?
Is it hidden behind furniture, at one end of the house or sitting somewhere that works against good coverage?
We consider distance, obstructions, neighbouring networks and whether devices are using suitable bands.
Extenders, mesh nodes, switches and multiple routers can help — or create problems if connected badly.
If every device works except one, the network may not be the problem at all.
Reposition, reconfigure, wire, add access points or replace equipment only where it genuinely adds value.
A BETTER HOME NETWORK
A typical home network can grow organically over several years: the ISP router, an extender, a second router, smart TVs, cameras, printers and dozens of wireless devices.
Everything may technically be connected, but the result can still be unreliable.
A better solution might be a properly positioned router, Ethernet to fixed devices, one or more wired access points and a switch in the right place.
The aim is not complexity. The aim is a network that quietly works without needing to be rebooted every few days.
