Slow Computers
Long startup times, freezing, sluggish applications, high disk usage and machines that seem to get slower every month.
PC & LAPTOP SUPPORT
Tech Rescue provides practical help with Windows PCs, laptops, software problems, upgrades, setup and everyday computer issues — explained in plain English.
DIAGNOSE FIRST
A slow computer does not automatically need replacing. Storage, memory, software, updates, malware, overheating and background applications can all create very similar symptoms.
EVERYDAY COMPUTER HELP
Sometimes the problem is obvious. Quite often it isn't. We can diagnose the machine properly and work out the sensible next step before money is spent unnecessarily.
Long startup times, freezing, sluggish applications, high disk usage and machines that seem to get slower every month.
Application errors, failed updates, driver problems, configuration issues and software that has suddenly stopped working properly.
SSD upgrades, extra memory and other worthwhile improvements that can give a perfectly usable machine a new lease of life.
Updates, accounts, printers, browsers, email, software, security and transferring the things you actually need from the old machine.
Blue screens, failed boots, random restarts and machines that power on but never quite make it to the desktop.
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, printers, monitors, webcams, keyboards and other devices that refuse to cooperate with the computer.
SLOW DOESN'T MEAN BROKEN
Computers are often replaced because they feel slow rather than because the hardware has actually failed.
One of the biggest improvements available to many older machines is replacing a mechanical hard drive with a solid state drive. Combined with sufficient memory and a clean software setup, the difference can be dramatic.
We would rather tell you that an inexpensive upgrade makes sense than recommend replacing a computer unnecessarily.
WHEN REPLACEMENT DOES MAKE SENSE
There comes a point where spending more money on an old computer simply isn't sensible.
Failing hardware, poor upgrade options, obsolete operating systems or a repair that costs too much compared with the value of the machine can all change the calculation.
If replacement is the better option, we can help choose a suitable machine and transfer the important data and settings across.
HOW WE APPROACH IT
Rather than changing random settings until something happens, we work through the likely causes methodically.
What changed, when did it start, and does the fault happen every time or only under particular conditions?
Storage condition, available memory, temperatures, power behaviour and obvious signs of component failure.
Updates, startup applications, system errors, drivers and software conflicts can make healthy hardware appear faulty.
Unwanted software, browser extensions, malware and suspicious background processes can all affect performance.
Repair, upgrade, reinstall or replace — whichever genuinely makes the most sense for the machine.
A successful repair should leave the computer tidy, updated and understandable, not just technically running again.
NEW COMPUTER?
A new PC should arrive ready to use — not leave you juggling old passwords, missing files, printers, email accounts and unfamiliar software.
Documents, photographs and other important files transferred from the old computer where possible.
Browser accounts, email, cloud storage and the services you actually use set up on the new machine.
Reconnect printers, scanners and other equipment so the whole setup works rather than just the computer itself.
